At PedsNOW, we are committed to providing the utmost care for a wide range of health conditions, including common issues such as coughs. A cough, while often a symptom of a minor condition, can sometimes indicate a more serious ailment.

Pediatric Coughs

There are three types of coughs:

  • Acute coughs last less than three weeks and are frequently caused by colds, flu, or other infections.
  • Subacute coughs persist for three to eight weeks.
  • Chronic coughs last more than eight weeks and can be symptomatic of conditions such as asthma, allergies, or more severe infections.

Our team of dedicated healthcare professionals is equipped to diagnose and treat these persistent coughs, implementing appropriate interventions based on the child’s condition. We offer a welcoming, child-friendly environment to ensure the comfort and ease of our young patients, while offering parents peace of mind.

Please note, while we treat a variety of conditions, if your child’s cough is accompanied by high fever, difficulty breathing, or whooping sound, it could be a sign of a severe condition like Pertussis (Whooping cough), and immediate medical attention is recommended.

Whooping Cough (Pertussis)

Pertussis, commonly known as whooping cough, is an infectious bacterial disease that can have severe implications, particularly in young children and infants. Children may contract Pertussis through direct contact with droplets from a cough or sneeze of an infected person. The onset of the infection is generally characterized by symptoms mimicking those of the common cold, including a runny nose, low-grade fever, and a mild, occasional cough.

As the disease progresses, the traditional symptoms of pertussis often become apparent, including severe coughing fits followed by a high-pitched “whoop” sound during the subsequent intake of breath. Though vaccination against pertussis during infancy is standard practice, the effectiveness of the vaccine can diminish over time. Thus, it is essential to be vigilant about the potential for infection, especially in children.

Should you suspect that your child might be exhibiting symptoms of pertussis, it’s critical to seek medical attention immediately. At PedsNOW our dedicated team of healthcare professionals are well-versed in diagnosing and treating cases of pertussis. We prioritize minimal waiting times and prompt, effective care. We’re here to ensure your child’s health and well-being, providing immediate attention to help them recover fully and quickly.

PedsNOW is always ready to serve the needs of your child and ensure their well-being. For more information, or to schedule an appointment, please contact us today. Walk-ins are welcome, or you can reserve a spot online to save time.

Lastly, you’ll find that the wait time at PedsNOW is generally much shorter than you’ll experience at most urgent care clinics. While general urgent care centers might see a broad array of patients, from the elderly to adults with complex medical conditions, pediatric urgent care centers solely focus on treating children. This not only allows for more targeted care but also usually results in shorter wait times, ensuring that your child receives swift and effective medical attention.
